Hello and welcome to my virtual loft!
I’m Ivona Mariș. I read, illustrate, write, travel, and take photographs—though not necessarily in that order. I live in western Romania, in the loft of an old house that also inspired the logo.
I couldn’t imagine living in a house without a library, at least a small yard, and our beloved pets: our dogs Aza and Toni, our tomcat Moto, our duck Ilie, and his companions: Mura, Aluna, Nuca, Luna, and Fulga.
From my loft, I write about places and times, history and roots, books and journeys, my home and garden, as well as scientific illustration.
With a background in textile engineering and former experience in two of the world’s largest retail companies, I later transitioned to IT, accumulating over 10 years of experience in blogging and WordPress website development. Recently, I have taken several courses in scientific illustration, rediscovering my passion for drawing from childhood. I enjoy traditional techniques like watercolor, ink, and graphite, and I’m exploring linocut and scratchboard art.
In this newsletter, you’ll find a bit of all these interests. How often? I don’t know for now. Initially, I will start translating and updating some older articles originally published in Romanian on my blog. But I do hope that, in time, these two spaces will come to complement each other seamlessly.
All the best,
Ivona
